Letterpress Print with Thermography

NZ$10.00

A limited run, these are letterpress printed and then embellished with thermography. This gives the print a raised and semi gloss finish. Immediately after a print is taken the sheet is dipped into a fine gold thermograph powder, which adheres to the wet ink only. The excess is shaken off, then the sheet goes through a heat tunnel where the powder is melted to give the finished effect. The type of paper chosen, the temperature, and the time under the heating elements dictate the raise and smoothness of the completed print. There is a skill and knowledge to get a good raised finish. A neutral (clear) powder can be used, giving a heat raised finish in the colour of ink used.

It was very popular from the 1930s to the 1980s, but has now all but disappeared from commercial printing. Except at Inkiana Press, where we print wedding and social stationery to give it this special touch.
